Canon Goes Green
The matter of environments is becoming a very serious issue in the world. With global warming and everything happening around us, it’s time we took some initiative to stand up and save our home. So, a bunch of Leos form Leo Club of SMKDU got together a bunch of friends and took the global matter into their hands.

They spent a half a Sunday, trying to do their bit for Mother Earth. This bunch of students is definitely worth our respect. They could have been doing something else on a beautiful Sunday like this, but they have chosen to be there planting trees, supporting this environmental movement by Canon.

Good job to those who were there. You guys are the best!

Orphanage Visit
On the 13th of August, the Leo Club of SMKDU went to an orphanage in Taman Megah.

For some of us, it's a first time ever being in one. For the rest of us, just another visit to a new orphanage. Stepping into the orphanage, there were just children everywhere. We quickly braced ourselves and launched into our mission.

Mark guided us as him being the most experienced one there. One by one, we warmed up to the kids there. We sang song while playing the guitar. Played games with them and even taught them new songs. We also learnt a lot from the kids there. They taught us a new dance, songs, and not to be forgotten, the spirit they have is worth admiration.

A clown was present on the same day; the children were all very absorbed in the clown's performance. The clown did all sorts of magic tricks and also invited the children to help him out with some of them. We helped out with the cleaning up after all the children left for their tuition. We ourselves left the orphanage at 2.15 pm.

To sum it all up, it was definitely a great experience. Congrats to Leo Yee Hua for organizing this.

Lantern Festival
Just on the 6th of September, the Lions Club of Taman Tun did a conjoin project with Taman Tun committee. This year, Leo Lynnette Oon was in charge of representing the Leo club of SMKDU. The annual Lantern Festival which is held in Tadika Diyana, Taman Tun.

The Leo Club of SMKDU were to meet there at 5pm in the evening to help set up. We helped out with the arrangement of goodie bags, registration counters. When the crowd started flowing in, everyone got very busy with their designated jobs. Whether it was at the registration counter registering kids or back there face painting, everyone didn't get a good break till the kids had a turn at everything!

Due to the weather, the lantern procession was cancelled. Nevertheless, the kids still had a wonderful time with the clown and SMKDU's sketch performance. We made 2 short sketches. One sketch on Chang Er' and another one on the Legend of Moon cake. The kids enjoyed both performances a lot and learnt something educational at the same time.

The kids were then directed to the canteen for food prepared by the Organizing Committee. There were laughter and chatting heard from all the little children. The excitement in the atmosphere was just warm. Our Leos helped with the giving out of the food and settled down to our own after the kids were done.

After that was back into the hall for another round of Mr.Clown's magic. Then, a newspaper game was organized by the Leo Club of SMKDU. We had prepared the newspaper in advance and gave out a sheet to each group. They were supposed to stand on the folded newspaper which decreased in size with every round played. The event ended after the prize giving ceremony which was at 9.00pm.

All the kids went home with a smile on their faces and a goodie bags in their hand. Isn’t it just beautiful to know that you've just put a smile on a little kid's face?

School Service Project
On the 16th of August, our school had their annual Hari Anugerah Kokurikulum. This is the day where the students who had excelled in their clubs get an honor, an appreciation for what they’ve done for the school.

The Leo's of SMKDU offered our help with the arrangement of seating in the hall. We took the chairs from the back of the hall and arranged them in an orderly manner according to the plan our teacher handed to us. Throughout the event, we also stood by in case of any shortage of seating.

After the event ended, the students left for the canteen to enjoy their lunch. We Leos started to stack the chairs back again and brought them back to where they belong. It was a tiring process but satisfying as the hall was once cleaned and empty again.

Joint Installation
On the 23rd of August 2008, us DU Leos were to attend a Joint Installation with 20 other clubs in the district. We were to meet in school latest by 8am in order to be there on time. A transportation fee of RM 3 was charged in order to pay the bus fare. We reached there right on time and registered ourselves at the entrance of the hall.

Joint Installation came to a start at 8.30 am. The VIPs were escorted in by the Organizing Chairperson, Leo Fong Hsin Yung. After the VIPs were seated, the National Anthem was sung by all the people present. The Leo pledge was recited after that. This was followed by the Opening Ceremony which was in charged by Leo Club of SMKDU. After the poppers were fired and cheers were screamed, we all settled down for the performances.

The first performance was by the committee of Joint Installation assisted by Lion Connie with her guitar. They sang the song “we are the world” by Michael Jackson. The performance was well liked and everyone cheered very loudly for them. Next up was a cheerleading performance, followed up by a dance by the BU Leos. Our club’s performance was by our band lead by Jo Wein. It had a mixture of instruments like violin, keyboard, electric guitar, drums, acoustic guitar and drums.

We proceeded to the canteen after that for lunch and took the opportunity to sell off our badges. The badges were quite popular among the fellow Leos as we sold many off in a mere one hour or so. Next, we went back up to the hall and took pictures for remembrance. Very big congratulations to the newly installed Board of Directors and Members.

Leo School
Leo school was held on the 16th of August 2008. We, Leos of SMKDU met in the Kelana Jaya station early in the morning. We all took the LRT to KL Sentral and then took the monorail to our destination. We had to walk some distance before reaching the school where the Leo school was held.

The first talk was presented by Lion Tan Gaik Im. We were taught on the history of Leo and how Leo started in Malaysia. William Ernst was the one who got the ball rolling for us Leos. The Leo acronym was not always Leadership, Experience and Opportunity but started out as Leadership, Equality and Opportunity. We were also educated on the different projects that we could organized to give back to the community.

The second half of the day, we were separated into two different groups – key officers and club directors/members. We were both briefed on different things. In the club director’s presentation, we were taught on our roles as to help support the key officers. We were taught on how to organize projects and how to make them a successful one. We were divided into groups and were given a project to plan on. Then, the key officers joined us again as we did our short presentation on the projects we planned.

Lunch was served shortly after that. We left in our own groups to the Pasar Seni LRT station and took a lift from there to Kelana Jaya station. All in all, we definitely benefited a lot from the Leo School.

LCTT Annual Charity Dinner
The Lion’s Club of Taman Tun held their Annual Charity Dinner on the 3rd of August in Grand Season Hotel which is located in KL. The Leos present on the day were, Leo Naomi Cheng, Leo Mark Chua, Leo Serenity, Leo Li Min, Leo Lynnette, Leo Neeraj, and not to forget our beloved faculty advisor, miss Liang. The KDU Leos were also there to help out with the event.

We were selling roses and helping out with the register on that day itself. We also help lay the free gifts on the chairs for each guest to get one. We sat at table number 40. The night was very eventful, with the dancing and the lucky draws! Lastly, the night ended with a big group picture.

Recycling Drive
This recycling project was organized by Zhu Shern. Students of SMKDU were advised to bring newspaper from homes for the recycling drive. Many students brought newspapers in big amounts.

After school, the Leos of SMKDU went on a newspaper hunt around Damansara Utama residential area to collect newspapers from them. The residents there were very kind hearted and were more than willing to give up their newspapers for a good cause.

After the newspapers were sent back to our school, the OC called the truck to come pick the newspapers up. Everyone helped to load the newspaper up the truck.

Zhu Shern and Yoke Yeong followed the truck driver to Aman Suria to unload the newspaper an sell it off.

Trip to SPCA
To go to SPCA,
We all had to be in school by 6.30am
But.. there were a few complications so we only left at 7.00am
After a 20 minutes drive,
We finally arrived at SPCA center.
Everyone proceeded to get off the bus.

There was a big banner showing the reason why we're here
To help out with the Jumble Sale
So they can raise enought money to support SPCA

The lady working there didn't hestitate a second at all
She quickly got the boys to start working.
She got them to form a human chain to get the stuffs out.

The girls also got busy after that.
Sorting the clothes out and hanging them in an orderly manner.
Some clothes had to be hanged up nicely,
Whereas some just had to be laid out nicely

Then,
The lady in charge gave us a short briefing.
It was on what to expect and what to do.
We had to keep an eye on the customers.
And also beware of theives.

After all the preparation,
The Jumble Sale begun at 9.30am
People kept going in and out.
Flipping through clothes trying to get the perfect fit.

A very successful trip to SPCAI bet everyone had lots of fun there.
It was definitely a new experience for most.
Though it was kind of tiring,
It was worth it, wasn't it?

Father's Day at Old Folk's Home
Leo Mark Chua had organized a trip to the old folk's home.
The main objective was to celebrate father's day with them.

AS the Community Service director,
He organized this Community service trip.
The Leos were there to entertain the folks there.

We left the place with smile on everyone's face.
An atmosphere of hope was created in the place.
A hope that people still cared.

Treasure Hunt
We had a mini amazing race in SMKDU today.
The activity had been planned by Naomi and I
We gave each of them a small clue which they had to follow.
The catch was the clue was in a riddle.
They had to figure out the riddle before getting to it!

Each location is a station game.
Different stations different games.
Spontaneous sketch, mentos in flour, cracking eggs and many more.

Each team had to complete the task first.
At the end of each task, that's if they complete it.
They get a sentence of the leo pledge.

They then have to collect all the sentences
Rearrange them back at the starting point to win!
